Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director of Human Resources – RU-NB for The Office of Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration & Planning. Rutgers University-New Brunswick (RU-NB) is the flagship campus comprised of 12 degree granting schools, five centers, and administrative units, with an annual operating budget that exceeds $1.5 billion. This position has a dual reporting relationship to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and Planning (EVC A&P) and the Senior Vice President for Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness of Rutgers University. The Director of Human Resources works with the chancellor's office, schools, centers/institutes, administrative divisions, and auxiliary units. This role serves as a central point of contact for operational and business process matters related to human resources and payroll.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for supporting units in the effective management of HR & Payroll processes and procedures across the campus, as well as serves as a resource to problem solve and provide guidance to campus constituents.
Works collaboratively and seamlessly with University Human Resources (UHR) to implement HR policies, services, and new initiatives across RU-New Brunswick. This role must demonstrate a fulsome understanding of the university mission, business needs, drivers, strategies, goals, and expectations of the units they support and provides thoughtful leadership and guidance on talent management and organizational effectiveness.
Delivers exceptional customer service, offers guidance on employee relations matters, liaises with UHR on policy and operational matters as appropriate, and provides accurate and timely administration of personnel policies and programs.
Directly manages the human resource and payroll functions for the Chancellor's Office.
Works effectively in a fast-paced environment, translating business needs and priorities into action through diligent project management and collaborative communications are key performance indicators for this position.
Drives a culture of performance and talent management across the campus.
Works closely with the Office of Labor Relations to manage the compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreements, provide support and consultation on progressive discipline and labor disputes, as well as act as step 3 grievance hearing officer, when required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in related field.
A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience working in one or more human resources functional areas.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Management experience, in particular within the human resources field
Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems
Demonstrated working knowledge of all HR functions, laws, and practices
Demonstrated experience working as a strategic partner in a relationshiporiented environment and client service mindset
Demonstrated successful experience working within a matrixed organization
Demonstrated strong oral and written communications skills; able to confidently present to small and large groups
Demonstrated ability to work successfully at all levels of a large organization
Experience leading high-profile projects
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and deadlines
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential documents and information
Demonstrated ability to carry out objective investigations and fact-finding inquiry
Ability to carry out the HR responsibility in alignment with the University's mission and vision statements, HR policy, labor contract, University guidelines and practices, and principles of management
Experience with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, SharePoint or equivalent) and HRIS (i.e. PeopleSoft)
Professional work experience in a higher education academic setting. Ideally, working within a collective bargaining environment in a higher education setting.
Experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle, or HCM cloud-based solutions
