The Assistant Dean of Human Resources and Engagement in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (ESOP) will provide the School with senior level leadership and management of all human resource functions and issues. In this capacity, the Assistant Dean of Human Resources and Engagement is responsible for providing overall direction of Human Resources operations and support across all employee types including faculty and non-faculty employees. The Assistant Dean will provide management and direction of the Human Resources organization at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy, which includes a team of six permanent HR staff. The position is responsible for providing advice and counsel on all HR policies and matters including, but not limited to employee relations; EEO and compliance; faculty and staff employment; performance management; employee engagement; professional development; and classification and compensation. The Assistant Dean of HR and Engagement serves as the principal liaison between the ESOP and key University central offices regarding HR-related matters including the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Academic Personnel, the EEO/ADA Office, University Payroll Services, and Office of University Counsel.
The position incumbent will be responsible for integrating HR best practices within the unit and serve as an advocate to and active participant in the University’s community of HR professionals. This position will be responsible for planning, preparation and implementation of new programs and systems in compliance with University direction. This position reports to the Executive Vice Dean – Chief Operating Officer.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree and seven (7) years or Masters degree and three (3) years of human resource management experience required with strategic talent management, engagement, and an alignment of culture across performance and behaviors for the Eshelman School of Pharmacy team. - Three (3) to five (5) years of related supervisory experience. - Broad knowledge of applicable human resources laws and regulations - Active engagement in national professional organizations related to the field of human resources - Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems - Broad knowledge of complex personnel, compensation and related policies and procedures for employees - Skills to work collaboratively with other campus locations - Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others - Proven ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution - Strong verbal and written communication skills - Ability to innovate and develop creative solutions which may have no precedent - Strong decision making, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and resource management skills - In-depth knowledge of university policies and operational procedures is preferred - Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
