The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) seeks an experienced, energetic and dynamic leader to serve as its next Vice President, Human Resources (Vice President). Human Resources (HR) leadership has recently changed and the opportunity now exists to hire a highly trained, expert HR practitioner capable of bringing contemporary HR strategies to this dynamic organization.
MCW is one of the nation’s premier freestanding and private academic health sciences institutions that is widely recognized for advancing academics, training, education and research. The Institution provides excellence in training and education for physicians, scientists and researchers, including graduate and undergraduate medical education programs, basic and translational research initiatives and overall clinical excellence. MCW is a major national research center ranking in the top third of U.S. medical schools in NIH funding, is Wisconsin’s largest private research institution and the cornerstone of the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus.
MCW is home to approximately 6,200 faculty and staff. Nearly 5,400 faculty and staff work at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus, and more than 850 work at approximately 22 other healthcare facilities in eastern and central Wisconsin. Over 2,000 physicians from the community serve as volunteer faculty. MCW is the eighth largest private employer in the metro Milwaukee area.
The Institution is poised for continued growth as MCW seeks to become a Health Sciences University and changing market dynamics make it necessary for the organization to have exceptional HR leadership. The Vice President will need strong technical HR competencies, complimented by a demonstrated ability to navigate highly complex and sophisticated organizations and the political nuances of such organizations. Leadership and the development of trust amongst the HR team and the organization will be of the upmost importance. MCW is a highly creative, innovative and thoughtful organization, committed to excellence in faculty affairs and education, as well as patient care and outcomes.
The successful candidate must have executive level experience in a similar complex environment and possess executive level HR knowledge in the areas of benefits, compensation, change management, organizational development, HR communications, talent acquisition, employee relations, policy, procedure, compliance and regulatory affairs.
This is an exciting time to take bold action and make courageous recommendations to design an organizational structure that allows for staff, faculty and leaders to thrive and to work above expectations. This will be done by inspiring the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees to be forward-thinking and to support the resources and tools necessary to ensure MCW is progressive in HR processes and workforce planning.
