There is a particular need for qualified adjuncts to teach during the day at central Ohio area high schools as a part of the Columbus State College Credit Plus program and also at our Delaware campus and regional centers located in Dublin, Reynoldsburg and Westerville. Distance learning course sections are only available after successfully teaching face-to-face classes. Applicants seeking a strictly online course schedule need not apply for this position.
The Adjunct - Human Resources position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. The Adjunct role provides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair, or other leadership members. The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with complicated material.
Essential Job Functions
In conjunction with the Business Program's department's policies, teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Department's policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instruction. Considers individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities. Participates in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource. Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology. Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester. Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporates departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students' performance in achieving course goals and objectives. Engages in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.
Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners. Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and policies of the College. Uses technology to assist in communication with students. Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom. Advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion. Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Attend all department meetings and required trainings. Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering information into computer. The employee regularly sits, stands and walks for extended periods of time. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Employee occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force of up to 10 pounds.
Typical office and classroom environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: online instruction techniques and methods; Microsoft Office; Blackboard; internet research; online communication and record-keeping.
Skill in: providing quality instruction; learning technologies and the use multi-media technology to enhance student learning; instructional planning and presentation; incorporating critical thinking, effective communication and other general education outcomes in course content; effective time management; proficiency with online communication record-keeping.

Master's Degree in Human Resources Management, Labor Relations, Labor and Human Resources OR a Master's Degree in a Business Related Degree such as Business Administration, Business Management, Hospital Administration OR Bachelor's Degree in one of these fields and recognized human resources certification such as Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) OR Bachelor's Degree in one of these fields and five (5) years of exempt level work in discipline.

About Columbus State Community College
Columbus State Community College has been meeting the diverse educational needs of the Central Ohio community for more than 50 years. The college is proud to be an important contributor to the growth and progress of the region and to serve as the front door to higher education in Central Ohio. From the first graduating class in 1965 through this year, 50,000 students have earned associate degrees in 50-plus technical fields and academic transfer programs. Columbus State also offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs whose coursework fulfills the freshman and sophomore year requirements for bachelor’s degree programs offered by four-year colleges and universities throughout the state. Specific transfer agreements with more than 40 colleges and universities are in place at Columbus State, and new direct-to degree partnership programs are being developed all the time. Columbus State now has two campuses serving Central Ohio educational needs. The Columbus Campus is located on 85 acres in downtown Columbus.
