The Human Resources Manager leads the HR function for the School of Dentistry (350+ employees). The HR Manager provides subject matter expertise on all aspects of Human Resources to Deans, Chairs, Managers, and leadership in the school.
This position provides expertise in regards to OHSU HR policies and oversees all HR procedures, recruitment, onboarding, compliance and employee development for the school. This position implements and maintains processes that support OHSU and best practices and strategizes with leadership to resolve HR related issues.
The manager coordinates with the School of Dentistry HR Business Partner to ensure timely response to HR issues. This position reports both to the School of Dentistry senior leadership and the Director of HR for Research and Academics, serving as the liaison with central HR, Provost office, other OHSU units, to ensure continuity of policy interpretation and timely procedure implementation.
Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, labor relations or related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience and training
Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible administrative experience in human resources
Experience interviewing, recruiting and wage offers for academic or medical positions
Experience in working with managers to strategize employment needs
Experience working on search committees and best practices around interviewing, selection
Experience managing employees, best practices with performance evaluations and coaching for success
Knowledge of recruitment strategies, sourcing, and effective advertising
Knowledge of labor laws
Knowledge of HR records retention policies and best practices
Knowledge of occupational health compliance initiatives
Ability to provide coaching, mentoring, or consulting to managers and employees to resolve interpersonal conflicts
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds as well as the ability to effectively diffuse upset or angry persons
Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite
Professional and attentive customer service skills, both in person and via phone; ability to exercise good judgment; ability to work independently and with minimal direction; critical thinking skills
Experience working in a confidential environment both independently and with teams
Ability to efficiently and effectively multi-task and manage many competing demands
A sense of urgency, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills a must
Working knowledge of state and federal employment laws and knowledge of collective bargaining agreements
Ability to speak in front of a group
Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm, some early mornings and evenings required
Office, classroom, lab and clinical environment
Ability to sit or stand at a computer for up to four hours a day
Ability to attend meetings throughout campus and satellite campuses
