Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education.
Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. Reporting to the President, The Chief Diversity Officer serves as the College's affirmative action and equal opportunity compliance officer and Title IX Coordinator, and provides leadership in developing a campus environment that reflects Medgar Evers College's commitment to multicultural diversity.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties include but are not limited to:
Ensure compliance with relevant city, state and federal statues, including Executive Order 11246, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504, and the Americans with Disability Act.
Oversee and coordinate all searches for faculty and professionals/technical positions with the College.
Manage staff and operations of Office of Compliance and Diversity Programs.
Develop and provide EEO/AA training and programs to different campus constituencies.
Monitor and implement EEO/AA policies, practices and procedures.
Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources Services in developing effective search strategies, networks and recruitment sources.
Serve as the principal EEO/ AA contact with Compliance agencies and the university.
Represent the President in regard to campus relations in designing and implementing new policies, procedures, and programs that address external and internal issues, especially those dealing with under-represented groups.
Provide support and guidance to the President and other senior staff in the management of confidential diversity mattes that affect at the college.
Collaborate with appropriate campus constituencies to implement The City University of New York's affirmative action and equal opportunity policies.
Cooperate with the College leadership to develop policies, initiatives, and opportunities that increase awareness and improve services for under-represented groups.
Work collaboratively to create mechanisms for the recruitment and retention of under-represented students, faculty and staff.
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.
-Record of progressively responsible relevant experience in a position of leadership, preferably in higher education or government;
-A record of success in EEO/AA and diversity areas including demonstrable familiarity with regulatory requirements, laws and guidelines;
-Demonstrated ability to work as part of a high level administrative team; investigatory experience, particularly in Title IX matters.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Oversees programs, activities, and initiatives designed to foster a climate that respects pluralism and diversity.
Develops effective strategies to promote diversity in faculty and staff hiring and actively participates in building strong networks and recruitment sources
Serves as a key recruiting team member, coordinating recruitment plans, advertising, and selection processes
Implements the College's Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity policies and ensures compliance with relevant city, state, and federal statutes such as Title VII, Title IX, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, responding to and conducting investigations of non-compliance complaints
Collects and analyzes data for College and University reports
Develops and presents training programs and disseminates information related to Diversity, EEO, and other compliance at the College
Coordinates with University offices to assure consistency of University-wide policies
Maintains current knowledge and materials related to laws, rules, regulations, and best practices for advancing EEO/Diversity
Performs related duties as assigned.
