The George Mason University, Facilities department is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person to fill its Director, Human Resources position. This position reports to the AVP, Business Services within Facilities and is located at our Fairfax, VA campus.
The Director, HR & Administration – Facilities, is a key member of the Facilities executive staff. Responsible for all personnel matters relating to a diverse departmental population in excess of 300 employees. Serves as H/R advisor, improving procedures and standards to improve the quality and efficiency of the department's H/R functions.
Provides close liaison with individual directors, superintendents, managers, and supervisors concerning recruitment, salary offers, orientation, evaluations, in-band adjustments, job descriptions and classification, terminations/resignations, training, discipline, and grievances;
Serves as an advisor regarding compliance with federal and state law and University policy; serving as internal consultant regarding issues relating to hiring, evaluating, compensation, discipline, and terminations;
Serves as liaison to University H/R and Office of Compliance, Diversity, and Ethics;
Serves as consultant to the AVP, Business Services and VP, Facilities and other department directors on all matters relating to employee issues and organizational structure and design;
Manages the department's apprenticeship program, performance evaluation program and process, as well as, various university programs that impact Facilities.
Successful applicants must have significant HR management experience (equivalent to 15+ years) to include: recruitment, compensation, and employee relations;
Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary human resource theory and practice;
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff and students at all levels;
Demonstrated planning, organizational and problem solving abilities;
Ability to conduct effective interviews and counseling sessions and render sensitive guidance in personnel issues;
Ability to administer human resources management, equal opportunity and treatment and affirmative actions is essential;
Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business, and/or Finance.
Masters degree in Business Administration.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
