Determines and recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.
Guides leadership and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines in the employee handbook; communicating and enforcing the school’s values. Administer HR policies in a consistent and equitable manner.
Works with the Assistant Head of School to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes/laws, such as EEO, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, Worker’s Compensation, ERISA, etc.
Successfully coordinates benefit programs (health, dental, vision, 403(b), LTD, Life, etc) for employees, including all employee communication, problem solving and claims resolution and compliance with applicable laws and statutes (HIPPA, ERISA, IRS, etc.)
Works with Division Directors to develop and update job descriptions for all employees, using a consistent format. Completes periodic job description audit and reclassify employees as appropriate under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Supports the recruiting lifecycle, including training faculty and staff on legal and best practices for interviewing job candidates, coordinating position advertisements, providing support for the hiring administrator, and preparing new hire contracts and information packets; supports the new hire orientation and onboarding and off boarding process. Conduct background and reference checks of prospective employees.
Supports the employee evaluation process with directors as needed. Act as advisor to directors on performance management situations.
Work with Accountant/Controller to administer payroll on a monthly basis.
Maintain Safe Schools Training system and ensure annual compliance of required training for employees.
Coordinates the employment contract renewal process each year.
Manage and administer the random drug and alcohol testing program for CDL drivers to ensure legal compliance.
Manage the employee grievance process. Act as a resource to employees and leadership in resolving employee relations issues. Conduct workplace investigations whenever appropriate or necessary.
Manage Worker’s Compensation program (file claims, follow-up, etc.)
Maintains personnel records, including attendance, vacation days, evaluations, educational documents, etc.
Participates on the Sunshine Committee. Ensures appropriate use of funds for employee events and gifts.
Supervise Substitute Coordinator. Assist in recruitment of substitute teachers.
Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, benefits administration, and training.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to accurately interpret procedures and regulations along with the ability to support appropriate implementation.
Perform with a high degree of confidentiality and integrity.
Strong project management, time management, and leadership skills.
Technology savvy with demonstrated skill in using Excel, Word, email, HR Management software, and software required for benefits administration.
Ability to solve problems effectively and efficiently.
Independent school experience preferred.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in the human resources field. Demonstrated knowledge of salary and benefit administration. Experience in resolving employee relations issues. Knowledge of processing payroll is a plus.
