The UC San Diego Human Resources Department is the campus central office encompassing numerous core campus organizations that include DisAbility Counseling and Consulting, Equal Opportunity Services, Compensation and Classification, Benefits, Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition and Data Analytics, Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, Labor Relations, Retirement Resource Center, Policy Development and Work Life, Staff Education and Development, and Temporary Employment Services.
As a member of the Human Resources Employee Relations team, incumbent uses professional HR concepts as a seasoned, experienced professional to apply organization policies and procedures to resolve the full range of HR-related issues in the Office of Advancement. Works on problems that are diverse and complex in scope, where analysis of situations require a review of a variety of factors, including working in an area with several diverse types of positions. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day assignments with some guidance provided on new projects.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Must have access to reliable transportation. Must be willing and able to travel.
Possesses strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to exercise excellent judgment in responding to employee relations related requests.
Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, knowledge of functional area and understands how work may affect other areas. Extensive HR management experience in a large, complex organization with an emphasis in FML, EO/AA Workers Comp, Employee/Labor relations, compensation/classification, and employment/recruitment practices that include multiple sites and employment programs, preferably in a University setting.
Thorough knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures, employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources. Demonstrated success in administering performance management systems and mentoring managers on the process of evaluating performance.
Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and/or other related business software programs and systems. Demonstrated experience in database management to extrapolate, interpret and manipulate information to provide staffing and budgetary reports and summaries.
Strong skills in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing. Demonstrated skills to provide guidance to managers and employees on complex and significant employee relations issues.
Strong ability to work effectively with individuals and groups of management and staff to incorporate their ideas, adapt to their needs and to encourage them to accept actions and decisions to implement UCSD best practices.
Ability to handle very difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively. Demonstrated interpersonal skills required to effectively interact with the public, faculty, students and staff in daily operations and via formal presentations.
Strong analytical, active listening, and critical thinking skills. Strong computational and analytical skills, including ability to comprehend complex issues as well as implement innovative and cost effective solutions. Good ability to research, collect, process and interpret financial data.
Strong demonstrated experience in managerial and administrative practices and principles, with strong management, delegation, and problem solving skills, Strong, independent decision-making skills.
Proven success and ability to provide appropriate administrative and disciplinary actions to manage policy compliance in organized and non-organized areas. Use professional judgment in situations for which there are no established criteria or standards or where answers to problems are not readily apparent and initiate action and solutions. Utilize effective negotiation skills in performance of functions to produce a satisfactory outcome for all parties concerned.
