Reporting to the Manager of Student Employment, the Human Resources Coordinator will provide support to the Office of Human Resources - Student Employment, in the delivery of human resources services to the APU community. Will be responsible for coordinating the recruitment and hiring of student employees for the university and serve as a primary contact for University's dining services. Will develop relationships with departments on campus and provide timely and accurate information to hiring supervisors in regard to student employment hiring practices, policies, procedures and applicable regulatory requirements. Assists in addressing a variety of HR issues and provides general administrative support to ensure business continuity.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
3 to 5 years of HR experience; some experience in a university setting.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions
Assist in coordinating the hiring process for all student employees.
Responsible for facilitating University's dining services student employee orientation program.
Respond to supervisors and student employee inquiries via email, telephone, and in person regarding employment questions or concerns.
Facilitates dining services food safety program in partnership with third party vendor.
Orders and issues appropriate safety equipment for student employees.
Acts as contact for safety related issues with students.
Direct student questions to the appropriate departments for support, such as Timekeeping and Payroll.
Provide accurate, complete, and timely responses to students and hiring supervisors.
Assist with data entry, including, but not limited to new hires, pay adjustments, and end of assignments.
Assist with verifying requisitions to determine student eligibility for employment that include required units and GPA.
Facilitate the pay adjustment process for long term, active student employees.
Assist hiring supervisors with questions related to Handshake job platform.
Ensure consistent content and style for each job posting.
Maintain accurate job descriptions that adhere to Federal Work Study regulations.
Prepare or maintain employment events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers, or promotions, using human resources management database systems.
Interpret and explain human resources policies and procedures and relevant employment laws.
Initiate onboarding events through SilkRoad applicant tracking system for student employees and generate and review reports to ensure compliance.
Meet with prospective student employees to facilitate the onboarding process, including completion of I-9, and other required forms for new hires.
Process student employee's I-9 through e-verify, and upload documentation; troubleshoot tentative non-confirmation questions.
Participate in meetings involving a range of topics related to student employment.
Assist in intake related to student employee and supervisor concerns and workplace complaints.
Schedule, develop and/or conduct student employment trainings and orientations.
Maintain and update human resources documents, such as student employee handbook, and performance evaluation forms.
Confer with management to make recommendations regarding student employment policies and procedures.
Assist and identify candidates for hard-to-fill positions by working with on-campus academic departments.
Provide information as necessary to complete employment verifications.
Educate international students regarding appropriate hiring procedures.
Assist with resolving data errors to preserve data integrity.
Participate in campus wide and/or department events
Maintain current knowledge of relevant employment law, including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Student Employment.
