The University of Maryland, Baltimore County is recruiting a Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer, reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer/Associate Vice President, and is responsible for providing leadership and consultation regarding human resources issues in the areas of recruitment, employee relations, classification, compensation, and benefits.
Specific duties include: setting strategic goals/objectives; planning and organizing the workflow of the human resources (HR) functions and activities in the aforementioned areas to ensure efficiency; representing the department through participation in on-campus and off-campus meetings; supervising, evaluating, motivating and developing HR staff to maximize office productivity; monitoring Federal and State legal requirements which may impact on operations; resolving problems and mediating employee disputes; making recommendations on grievance appeals, conducting hearings on grievance appeals and serving as co-lead of resignations and terminations, as needed; and performing additional duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree preferably in human resources management or related field (Master’s Degree and SPHR additional certification are preferred) and at least seven (7) years spent progressively building a background in the various departmental functions with at least five (5) years of experience at a management/leadership level.
Must have knowledge of “best” practices in the field of human resources including: the ability to establish goals and procedures necessary to implement a mission and strategic vision specified by the Department; excellent leadership, coaching, and team-building skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships; ability to network and interact, support effective partnerships with key groups and individuals; ability to prioritize ongoing and new projects, conduct research and gather information; and strong oral, written and presentation skills.
Master’s degree and SPHR additional certification
General knowledge and experience in the higher education industry is preferred
