Berkeley Preparatory School seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to optimize and enhance the Berkeley employee experience. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Business Operations, the Human ResourcesManager administers payroll and benefits, matters of compliance, employee onboarding and offboarding, and provides oversight and ongoing improvement of the school’s HR policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as a key member of the organization providing employees with respectful, consistent and trustworthy Human Resources support
Manages and administers the school benefits program, including all health and welfare plans and the 403(b) retirement program
Proactively and regularly communicates benefit information to employees and provides general benefits support to individual employees as needed
Develops and maintains Human Resource and Payroll related systems that meet the school's personnel and information management needs
Maintains responsibility for compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all personnel, payroll and benefits administration matters, including all background and drug testing requirements
Executes and optimizes the full cycle of employee onboarding and offboarding process
Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation
Reviews and makes recommendations for improvement of the school's policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters in support of Berkeley Preparatory School culture
Regularly and proactively communicates changes in personnel policies and procedures to all employees in clear and helpful language
Supports administration in the annual employment renewal process
Creates communication pieces for employees and managers regarding their responsibilities with compliance issues
Maintains and periodically audits all employee personnel files
Supports the annual 403(b) audit and coordinates 403(b) testing.
Completes HR-related sections of annual surveys (INDEX, NAIS, BIIS) and responds to requests for HR information
Additional duties as assigned or required
Human Resource Manager Skills/Qualifications:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point required
Ability to work with people and information effectively and sensitively; maintain poise and confidentiality in all situations; support Berkeley’s mission and core values
Minimum of seven years professional experience in Human Resources, Independent Schools, or some combination thereof
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty and staff
Attention to detail and superb organizational skills
Knowledge of state and federal employment laws and their implications
Experience with payroll and payroll related software strongly preferred
HR Certification strongly preferred
Ability to speak Spanish is highly valued
