We are searching for a motivated and detail oriented individual to join our Human Resources Shared Services Team. The Shared Service Core focuses on providing cost effective, operational and transactional services through a standardized model. We offer in depth subject matter expertise and knowledge to ensure compliance with University policies.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources & Faculty Affairs and to the Assistant Vice Dean for Human Resources, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day human resources, academic affairs and payroll functions of the departments within the Shared Service. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for managing special projects within the office of the Assistant Vice Dean for Human Resources.
The HR/FA Generalist will:
Assist with the recruitment of staff by posting positions on Columbia's job sites and appropriate advertising sources, scheduling in-person meetings, managing the I-9 process; completing pre-hire background checks, processing all new hires and any employment related changes.
Liaise with internal and external constituents to resolve issues and to ensure time processing of new-hire/appointment, reappointment, termination and other related transactions.
Oversee the department's preparation and processing of payroll and time off tracking sheets.
Responsible for immigration related needs of faculty and staff. Assisting with sponsorship for the F-1, J-1, H-1, 0-1 and TN-1 visas and prepare visa documentation for accompanying family members.
Process short-term visitors and student internship appointments.
Meet weekly with Department Administrator or his/her designee to review HR/FA transactions.
Provide back-up support to the other shared services HR generalists.
Manage special projects as designated by the Assistant Vice Dean for Human Resources
Other duties as assigned or requested
Bachelor's degree or equivalent required plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
Must be resourceful, organized and detail and task oriented with the ability to establish priorities and follow up on multiple issues in a time-sensitive manner.
Skilled at working under pressure and with minimal supervision and sound independent judgment required.
Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, firmness, and collaboration in dealing with individuals at all levels.
Strong analytical and tenacious problem-solving skills necessary
Excellent computer skills including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, including knowledge of databases and advanced spreadsheet skills required.
Must be able to quickly acquire knowledge of University policies, procedures, and systems
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field
