Department Summary The SOJC is an ACEJMC-accredited program with a century-long history at the University of Oregon, which is a comprehensive research university and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). Our program thrives as a journalism and communication school known for innovation, ethics, and action. We offer four undergraduate concentrations (in advertising, journalism, media studies, and public relations), five professional and academic master’s programs, and a doctoral program in media studies.
Position Summary The Human Resource (HR) Manager has primary responsibility for employment processes and procedures with the School of Journalism and Communication (except Graduate Employees). This includes: • Overseeing the recruitment, selection, and hiring processes for faculty, adjuncts, postdoctoral instructional scholars, officers of administration, and classified staff. • Manage student employment solely responsible for budget, hiring decisions, process, and procedures. • Managing personnel filing systems and databases. • Managing payroll and oversee time entry. • Initiating, routing, submitting and tracking employment paperwork. • Coordinating onboarding and exit processes. • Leading special projects as assigned.
As an HR professional, this position will provide training, coaching and guidance to supervisors and employees assisting with employee relations, employment processes, position descriptions, performance reviews, progressive discipline, grievances, investigations, and process improvements. For student employment, this position will oversee the annual budget of roughly $150,000 - $200,000 making resource, hiring, and termination decisions in consultation with supervisors. This role will work strategically and confidentially on employment matters.
Minimum Requirements • Bachelor's degree in related area; and • Three years of experience in human resources administration. OR • A combination of education and experience totaling seven years.

Preferred Qualifications • Experience working in higher education. • Professional HR certification. • Experience working with union contracts. • Experience with developing and implementing processes and procedures. • Experience with personnel files and/or electronic databases. • Experience with Banner information system.
