Senior Human Resources Associate
The College at Brockport
The Office of Human Resources at The College at Brockport, State University of New York is accepting applications for a Senior Human Resources Associate. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, the successful incumbent supervises one professional staff member and will support employee and labor relations, performance management and organizational development initiatives on the campus.
Serves as one of three employee relations representatives for The College.
Administers the provisions of six collective bargaining agreements. Interprets, advises and effectively explains contractual obligations, policies, and procedures. Conducts investigations and interrogations. Resolves employee relations issues and facilitates conflict resolution between employees and supervisors to promote a positive, safe, and compliant work environment. Participates in labor management meetings with various bargaining units.
Coaches directors and supervisors on the interpretation and implementation of relevant HR policies, procedures and programs. Engages in active listening, coaching and counseling to address and resolve employee or management concerns. Listens to the situation/concern thoroughly to provide a portfolio of recommendations for a timely and effective resolution. Creates and presents sound action plans with concrete, actionable measures for effecting change in the workplace to address both technical and interpersonal concerns and to create a positive employer/employee relationship and to promote a high level of employee morale and engagement.
Oversees the issuance, tracking and monitoring of performance program/evaluation notices according to timelines.
Works with the Human Resources Associate to ensure performance program and evaluation reminders are sent to supervisors and employees. Coordinates with the Human Resources Associate and Office Assistant 2 to maintain an evaluations database to determine appropriate dates for evaluations, renewals, non-renewals, and permanency. Oversees the notification of supervisors of classified probationary employees' appointment requirements.
Responds to performance management questions and advises supervisors and employees on aspects of the collective bargaining agreements that pertain to performance management. Provides counsel to supervisors on how to write effective performance programs and evaluations.
Organizational Development and Training
Participates in and contributes to projects that implement key strategies for creating and sustaining a high performing organization. Delivers performance management and employee relations related training to supervisors. Manages the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVP) including distributing the annual WVP policy, coordinating building assessments and delivering the workplace violence prevention training program in person to new hires and through Everfi, a web-based training platform for existing employees.
Coordinates with the HR Associate to ensure the HR Associate prepares annual compensation plans and responds to individual inquiries regarding compensation.
Supervises one HR Associate including hiring, training, orienting and managing performance.
Serves on various campus wide committees and other various departmental working committees. Attends a minimum of two college-wide events per academic year.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Resources or a related field, from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization; demonstrated career progression in the field of Human Resources and/or Organizational Development; possesses current working knowledge of employment law and regulations such as Title VII, Title IX, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and the ADEA; demonstrated self-initiative, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and ability to prioritize multiple duties; strong conflict resolution skills; possesses excellent attention to detail, organization, and problem solving skills; effective interpersonal skills to work with faculty, staff, and students; demonstrates the ability to work independently and work collaboratively as part of a team; strong oral, written and presentation skills; and, proven record of personal integrity, ethical behavior and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Human Resources or a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and experience in public sector/employee relations.
