Vanderbilt University's HR Information Systems Department is seeking an HR Analytics Consultant who will be responsible for consulting with end-users on their HR-related data needs; directs customers to existing standard queries, or develops custom reports and queries to successfully meet the users' needs. In this role, you will also be responsible for effectively diagnosing and analyzing data requests from campus users, to determine availability and appropriateness of data, as well as the best methods for providing optimal datasets, reports, and visual displays of data. You will develop and refine data analytics/reporting requirements to meet true data needs. Also, creating integrated reports that may pull data from multiple enterprise systems to ensure successful delivery of data/business intelligence for end-users. You will serve as a mentor and content expert for campus HR data users to ensure that users fully understand the data they are requesting and utilizing for decision-making. And finally, you will serve as a project leader and participant for HR applications.
About the Work Unit:
The Human Resource Information System (HRIS) work unit is a knowledgeable, engaged, and diverse team that manages HR-related information for the University, including reviewing, quality-controlling, and verifying campus HR transactions as central approvers through established workflow processes; supporting HR systems in the testing of enhancements and upgrades; and supporting the training of system end-users and unit-based specialists in the enterprise HR (Oracle HCM) modules. HRIS supports both HR functional areas and campus schools/divisions by providing guidance on how to successfully and timely navigate routine and complex HR transactions, as well as managing final approval of such transactions. HRIS serves as the institution's data steward for authoritative HR and payroll data and facilitates campus HR data and reporting requirements in support of operational and strategic college/divisional and leadership decision-making.
This position does NOT have supervisory responsibility. This position reports administratively and functionally to the HR Systems Consultant of Data Analytics.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as a core HR Data Steward
Serves as a responsible institutional steward of confidential and highly-sensitive HR- and payroll-related data; recognizes appropriate and inappropriate requests for data and releases sensitive data only in appropriate forms to appropriate individuals for appropriate purposes. Escalates potentially sensitive or high-profile data requests to HR management as necessary.
Serves on data task force - work on building, improving, and troubleshooting reports to fulfill organizational needs. Documenting specifications for existing reports
Fulfills end-user requests for data queries
Interviews end users to assess their perceived and real needs for data, reports, analyses, metadata, training, service level support, data quality, and performance
Translates customer requirements into complete and correct technical specifications
Identifies and assesses optimal data sources
Recommends appropriate scope of requirements
Validates that the data meets requirements and are in accordance with existing service level agreements
Coordinates prototype reviews
Develops and implements tools or applications for accessing and analyzing data
Works with work units to understand and prioritize user requirements
Writes or works with business intelligence tools and analytic applications that let end users access and analyze data
Customizes tools and data sets for use by different types of data consumers
Develops business-oriented metadata definitions
Creates and runs daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and Ad-hoc reports
Builds Oracle dashboards to meet customer needs (eg - data integrity dashboard)
Prepares and presents frequent high-quality, statistical analyses and operational reports.
Investigates and reports on quality data to analyze indicators and trends in areas of interest
Monitors data completeness and correctness in enterprise HCM system, identifies quality-control problems that may come from decentralized data entry processes, and identifies and implements corrective actions to ensure that the data maintained in the system remains of high quality and high value to the organization
Effectively utilizes broad knowledge of the organizations databases and systems within HR as well as affiliated and integrated upstream and downstream systems
Employs generally accepted quality practices in analyzing institutional data; maintains excellent working knowledge of HCM data elements and how they are used at the organization
Demonstrates a broad working knowledge of higher education institutions
Uses excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills to ensure clear and complete explanations and interpretations
Presents Visual Displays of Data
Effectively utilizes common tool sets to convert complex datasets to visually-accessible displays of data, using graphs, tables, charts, and graphical images, in order to effectively convert raw data into clearly communicated and compelling "information"
Assists with planning and implementation of data identification
Develops process analyses when necessary
Assists with data validation and cleanup processes
Liaisons with functional data representatives to ensure data validation results meet their requirements
Monitors data integrity, suggests corrections and updates data as needed
Serves as project leader
Effectively establishes and executes work task priorities
Instructs and trains other users, both technical and functional, in methods and procedures
Provides technical assistance to users
Provides expert level support for problem determination and resolution
Provides innovative solutions to working within the constraints of environment
Is up-to-date on emerging techniques and technologies
Ensures integrity and security of institutional data
Adheres to confidentiality, data security, and technology security policies and procedures
Tests and verifies accuracy of data
Provides adequate security through identification of user types in conjunction with the user department
Develops requirements for Business intelligence solutions under general guidance to satisfy end user data needs.
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
Bachelors in Business or Human Resources, from an accredited institution of higher education, is preferred.
Strong working knowledge of enterprise HR systems is preferred.
Oracle Cloud HCM knowledge is preferred.
HRIS Systems and Reporting Tools (Oracle, Taleo, Business Intelligence, SQL) is necessary.
3-5 years of human resources reporting experience is preferred
Ability to deliver high-quality, effective and complete data analytics is required.
Higher Education HR experience is preferred.
Personal and professional integrity, as well as confidence and credibility, is required.
Ability to be service-oriented and customer-focused is required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community is required.
