The AVP HR leads the human resource (HR) functions of Teachers College (TC) and oversees development and/or implementation and assessment of HR policies, practices, plans, and strategies that support the mission of the College.
The scope of this role encompasses, among other areas, human capital recruiting, development and retention; compensation and benefits; employee and labor relations; policy development and practice implementation; performance evaluation and feedback; organizational systems and development; training, coaching and leadership development; and human resource information system related functions, including continuous quality improvement within a user-friendly environment.

The AVP HR demonstrates skills in advanced critical thinking, relationship management, change management, leadership, consultation, and communication skills at all levels of administration and with multiple stakeholders. Additionally, the AVP HR possesses in-depth understanding of HR ethics and professionalism; budget development and planning; and compliance with state, federal and other regulations.
The AVP HR has global and cultural awareness and interacts thoughtfully across diverse populations; embraces diversity and inclusion; creates working environments that encourage team-building, innovation and open communication; and exhibits excellent judgment in their role as advisor, supervisor, mentor and leader. The AVP HR is focused on delivering excellent customer service and support.
The AVP HR must have earned a BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university and accrued a minimum of 10 - 15 years of progressively responsible experience across all human resource functions.
Other qualifications may include an MBA or MA/MS in human resources or related field or a JD with relevant experience; experience in a higher education environment, SHRM Certification (SHRM-SCP or CP); Coaching certification; experience in labor relations and in Human Resource Information Systems, e.g., Banner.
