The Human Resources Business Partner serves as a key business partner and trusted advisor to assigned clients. The HR Business Partner facilitates change by anticipating, identifying, planning and implementing people strategies relevant to client priorities. This role partners with clients to achieve goals & objectives that position the organization for future success. The incumbent will be-functionally and technically deep in all aspects of the HR generalist role and be knowledgeable in HR specialist functions (e.g., labor, compensation, benefits, talent, and records). In addition, the incumbent will have solid, operational knowledge of organization development. The HR Business Partner's HR competence must enable the efficient identification of client centric solutions and additional HR resources to deliver relevant solutions. The individual must be poised and strong at creating HR alignment and building relationship to broker expertise from HR specialists to meet client expectations.
Design and conduct organizational assessments to diagnose client organizational challenges and deliver recommendations to address challenges and improve school/unit culture.
Develop and deliver customized HR solutions to improve performance, sustain client's organizational culture and drive business results. Partner with HR colleagues on these initiatives, as needed.
Design and facilitate strategic planning sessions for senior leadership team to develop short- and long-term strategic plans.
Support schools/units in the annual performance management process by providing guidance on school/unit implementation and facilitating training for managers and employees.
Consult with schools/units to provide strategic direction regarding school/unit restructures.
Leverage and implement change management methodologies to achieve school/unit strategies and objectives.
Consult with leaders on employee relations issues, including but not limited to investigation, counseling, corrective action, and mediation. When needed, take the lead in these activities.
Support managers by providing coaching on appropriate techniques to resolve conflicts and by recommending suitable resources (e.g. employee assistance program).
Conduct complex workplace investigations, write finding reports and make recommendations on action plans.
Policy Development & Interpretation
Advise managers and leaders on interpretation and application of university policies, labor laws and union contracts, as needed.
Participate in policy development activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree with 10 or more years of experience in human resources OR Master’s degree with 5 or more years of experience in human resources.
Experience in at least two of the following HR disciplines: generalist, training, organizational development and/or employee relations.
Experience working in a complex or decentralized organization strongly preferred.
