This position serves as the primary human resources contact for the department. Responsibilities include recruitment, on-boarding, pay and compensation; consulting on employee relations, programs, and services.
Recruitment, On-boarding, Pay and Compensation (40%)
*Staffing and Recruitment for adjunct faculty, professional academic/academic administrative, civil service, and bargaining unit positions. Partner with supervisors to develop job descriptions, specify qualifications, post and advertise positions, review and identify qualified candidates, participate in interviews and/or advise on interview practices, perform reference and background checks, send regret letters, write offer letters, etc.
*Develop, manage and implement on-boarding process of all new employees to the department. Communicate information, resources, and referrals to employees regarding benefits, payroll, housing, department and university policies, required trainings, and system access.
*Pay and Compensation - Be a resources for Department Administrator. Back-up with payroll entry and appointment preparation. Department Time & Absence Administrator.
Performance Management for Adjunct Faculty, Staff and Student Employees (30%)
*Develop and coordinate department evaluation process; process mapping, process improvement, implementing online procedures for tracking and submitting evaluations.
*Provide communication assistance to the Department Administrator. Communicate with supervisors and employees regarding the department employee evaluation process.
*Provide resources and discuss opportunities for immediate feedback and goal setting with supervisors and employees.
*Review evaluations, log and submit evaluations to college and OHR as required.
Employee Relations, Programs and Services (30%)
*Coach supervisors on employee relations issues, interpret policies and advise staff.
*Consult, research and respond to human resources related policy questions, annual open enrollment and benefits questions, COBRA, FMLA, EAP, etc.
*Wellness Advocate - coordinate work/life balance initiatives in the department, educate adjunct faculty and staff about the programs available.
*Develop and manage for each position a professional development plan including training, access requests, and requirements for each position.
*Training and Resources - Assist supervisors with information/training sessions for employees on customer service, security/safety, expectations, etc.
*Employee Engagement/Team Building - lead ice-breakers and strengths/talent focused exercises during staff meetings.
*Administer in-person exit interviews
This is a full-time, 12-month position

•BA/BS in Human Resources or related field, or a combination of related education and professional HR work experience to equal four years. •Proficiency with Google application, Microsoft office or similar programs. •Excellent communication skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. •Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and manage multiple tasks under deadline pressures.
•Work experience in a higher education setting and familiarity with University of Minnesota human resources policies, procedures, and systems, including PeopleSoft.
