Reporting to the Vice Dean of Administration and Chief Operating Officer, the Executive Director provides strategic, proactive, and innovative leadership to the school-wide human resources function. The candidate oversees matters relating to recruitment, compensation, performance management, labor relations, employee relations, coaching, and organizational design.
The Executive Director oversees a staff of seven Officers of Administration in addition to work-study and casual staff; maintains overall signatory authority for employment, compensation, and payroll, salary, appointment files.
Manages a comprehensive group of human resource functions and oversees seven staff, including the Faculty Appointments team.
Ensures compliance with and interprets complex University policies and audit requirements related to HR and Faculty processing; understands and complies with Federal and State policies as related to human resources functions.
Serves as a management resource to all levels of leadership and staff; provides counsel and coaching as needed on a variety of HR policy and staffing issues; advises management and makes recommendations regarding employee performance issues.
Provides creative solutions for complex personnel issues; analyzes organizational design and recommends staffing plans; provides leadership development ideas; guides performance management and models customer service in support of organizational strategic objectives; Evaluates training needs, and develops training programs for staff.
Represents the School on union (Local 2110) matters; initiates and approves actions related to discipline; represents the School at Collective Bargaining Agreement grievances.
Provides support to the Vice Dean with aligning long-range human resource initiatives with School objectives; collects and analyzes HR metrics within the School and makes recommendations concerning attrition, staffing, training and development, and compensation matters.
Represents the School to outside professional groups and associations and by serving on various University process improvement committees.
Performs related tasks as necessary.
Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in developing, administering, and evaluating human resource policies and programs.
Must be a result and goal-oriented individual with the stability, persistence, and patience necessary to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituents. Ability to detect emerging trends and make recommendations for change. Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and ethics with high standards. Ability to gain credibility with diverse constituencies. Demonstrated experience managing a business unit budget.
Master's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of performance management, quality improvement, change management, strategic planning, organization assessment, leadership development, labor relations and educational and training methodologies preferred.
