Involves recommending, developing, implementing, administering, coordinating, and / or evaluating Human Resources (HR) policies, labor contracts, statutes, programs and procedures covering several of the following: recruitment, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, payroll, benefits, welfare programs, training and development, inter-location transfers, and employee services.
Applies professional human resources, organization policies and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity.
Under general supervision, the HR Generalist primarily supports the Business Administration, Policy, Projects & Resources (BAPPR) and Benefits units; also supports other HR Managers and units within Staff Human Resources (SHR) including Compensation, Talent Acquisition, and Employee & Labor Relations to achieve unit and campus goals.
Works collaboratively and establishes effective working relationships with SHR managers and staff, clients, campus constituents, and union representatives. Provides analytical, administrative, and customer service support in areas such as records management, background check processing, service credit analysis, open enrollment, unemployment insurance claims processing and benefits eligibility verification.

The work-site is located off campus at the UCSC Scotts Valley Center at 100 Enterprise Way, Scotts Valley, CA.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and training.
Strong background providing administrative support in a complex and fast paced environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities and competing deadlines.
Experience analyzing issues with strong attention to detail sufficient to interpret reports and statistical data, and research, gather and integrate information. Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in sensitive and/or confidential personnel and organizational matters.
Outstanding verbal and non-verbal interpersonal skills with the ability to engage in open, effective, and positive interactions with individuals and groups from a culturally diverse community.
Selected candidate will be required to:
-pass a pre-employment criminal history background check AND sign the Custodian of Records Application Form per the California Department of Justice CORI requirements
-Complete required compliance trainings as directed
-May be required to complete HIPPA Certification
Must have the ability to:
-work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation
-work occasional nights and weekends
-travel to attend meetings, trainings, etc., both on-and off campus
