Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Human Resources Consultant for University Human Resources. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Human Resources. As part of the Talent Management team, implements programs and procedures to advance the goals and objectives of University Human Resources and the University. The HR Consultant provides advice and guidance on policy interpretation in accordance with applicable university, state, and federal regulations, processes, policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Under the guidance of the Senior HR Consultants, this position provides consultative client service to the university community regarding human resources matters to include; compensation and classification cases.
Identifies innovative and effective approaches to assist departments in establishing and meeting their administrative goals, mission and vision.
In close consultation with and under the guidance of the Senior HR Consultants, provides assistance in the investigation and resolution of employee issues, and guidance on performance management and corrective action procedures.
In consultation and collaboration with Labor Relations ensures compliance with contract provisions of staff unions.
Participates in and provides research and administrative support for special projects and performs other duties as required.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
A minimum of two years' experience in human resource management to include classification, compensation, recruitment, staffing, performance management, training, and compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in higher education and in a labor environment
Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, highly sensitive environment; and have excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated track record in delivering exceptional client service
Ability to navigate complex policies, contracts, and legal mandates to assist clients in achieving organization goals
Ability to work well in a team environment and foster a positive, productive, and progressive work environment.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products and HRIS systems also required.
PHR, SPHR, or other Human Resource Management certification or an advanced degree in HR preferred.
